Ted Scheu,a local poet, visited Edmunds for a school wide
assembly.
He shared poems from his many books with us.
Ted showed
us how poets play with language to create poems that surprise the reader.
We worked together to create our own poem about Spring:
Spring is.... (By: Us)
Bunnies dancing
Flowers singing
sun smiling
rain crying
butterflies gliding
grass waving
Spring Rocks!
After the assembly, Ted worked with each
second grade class to teach them how poets use similes (the language of comparison),
to make their poems powerful.
Thanks to Kathy Neil, our librarian, for
arranging this event!
