What a day! Today EES students began the day with the
Vermont Symphony Orchestra visiting our school, and are ending the day with two wonderful read -aloud books! Each year the EES community votes for their favorite of ten picture books nominated to receive the
Red Clover Book Award.

Mr. Houchens, and Ms. Hale dress the part to read Blizzard, by John Rocco |
This award has been given annually since 1997. Across the state, thousands of children are reading these books in school libraries and homerooms.
 |
Ms. Fitzpatrick counts syllables in this story written in haiku form- afterwards, students wrote their own haiku! |
Here at EES, students break into multi-age groups and spread out into cozy classrooms and nooks across the school to hear a story. They travel with that same multi-age group around the building, switching books, teachers, and activities.

Mr. Gillard reads Elizabeth, Queen of the Seas by Lynne Cox |
It's a great way to meet teachers around the building with whom the kids have otherwise had little interaction, and to meet new friends K-5. Over several days, all students will hear all ten books, and will vote on their favorite to help the Vermont Center for the Book decide which book should receive the award that year.

Mr. Styles and Ms. Paradise read Winter Bees, by Joyce Sidman, a collection of poetry and nonfiction on animal survival |
Last year, the book The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt, illustrated by Oliver Jeffers, was the winner! We can't wait to hear more stories, and hear who is awarded the prize this year.
